Frequently Asked Questions

SkyCatcher connects pilots who want to share a flight, allowing them to split aircraft hire, fuel, and other expenses.

Currently, pilots coordinate the payment process themselves — for example, one pilot hires the aircraft, and the other transfers their share directly. In future updates, SkyCatcher will automate this process for a seamless, in-app cost-splitting experience.

SkyCatcher helps you find the right flying partner by allowing you to filter pilots by licence type, ratings, aircraft they fly, aerodrome, and availability. Before flying together, pilots can review each other’s profiles, discuss their experience, and agree on responsibilities for the flight.

All pilots can join SkyCatcher — including student, recreational, private, and commercial pilots. Each flight should be conducted within the limits of each pilot’s licence, ratings, and level of experience.

For example, you may choose to fly with a student pilot to help them practise navigation or radio work, while the qualified pilot maintains full control of the aircraft.

SkyCatcher is designed primarily for private and recreational pilots but welcomes all aviation enthusiasts — including instructors, students, and aircraft owners.
Our goal is to make private aviation more social, collaborative, and accessible across Australia.

No, SkyCatcher is completely free to use for all pilots.

Yes. SkyCatcher also helps connect pilots and students with flight instructors offering flight training.
It’s a growing network designed to make finding the right flying partner faster and easier.

SkyCatcher enhances flight safety by encouraging pilots to fly together when possible. Having another pilot on board helps improve situational awareness, allows for discussion of emergency procedures, and provides the opportunity to share the workload in the cockpit. This collaborative approach helps reduce pilot fatigue, allows for cross-checking decisions, and ensures a safer, more prepared flying experience for everyone involved.

We are currently testing the platform with a limited number of pilots. Once we ensure the app runs smoothly, it will be available to all pilots across Australia.
